A Story I Remember*
Henry Robert
Henry Robert was an engineer. He was good at his work. One evening, however, he found himself in unfamiliar territory. He was totally unprepared for what suddenly he had to do. It was a disaster.
Being an engineer, Robert set out to find a remedy. He methodically analyzed various similar situations, observing how others handled things. He sought out practical solutions to a variety of situations. He noted what worked well, and what did not.
Robert shared his results with others. Order came out of chaos.
Being the good engineer that he was, Robert continued to improved upon his results for many years.
- He studied.
- He observed.
- He evaluated.
- He organized his findings.
- He standardized.
- He documented his work.
- He tested his conclusions.
- He learned.
- He shared.
That was a long time ago. After Robert died, his family maintained the system of rules that Robert had established.
And to this day, people around the world rely on the orderly results engineered by Henry Robert ... in "Robert's Rules of Order."
